General Job Description:

These positions are responsible for the actual preparation of food for up to 48 adolescent males.  These positions will require cooking daily meals for the residents and ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of a clean and environmentally safe kitchen.  These positions are under the direct supervision of the Director of Human Resources/Public Affairs.

Essential Job Functions:

• Able to plan, prepare, and handle food for up to 48 adolescent males aged 13-17
• Practice safe food handling practices
• Able to effectively conduct a Texas Department of Health inspection when the TDH representative visits the facility
• Maintain inventory logs and weekly menus
• Coordinate with Dietician about menu selections
• Able to prepare cost-effective grocery lists
• Conduct bi-weekly visits to pick up groceries for the facility
• Ensure that kitchen area remains sanitary and clear of any dangerous hazards
• Able to be creative with meal preparations and presentations
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times
• Engage in positive communication at all times
• Able to work with minimal direct supervision

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Current Food Services certification from the Texas Department of Health or other licensing agency
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record
• Able to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
• Possess good communication skills
• Able to plan ahead and take the initiative when performing various tasks
